Day 12 lunchtime

Breezy held her breath and waited.  Watching the Jeneve chew her lip
as
she stared at the knives in horrified fascination Breezy looked at
Antwin with that *Help me out here* look in her eyes.

"They're really very good knives," said Antwin, encouragingly.

"But ... but..." said Jeneve, looking devastated. "Surely I'm not
expected to ... fight!"

She looked so upset that Breezy put her arm around the younger girl's
shoulders and said, reassuringly: "Hey, Jeneve, don't worry! We're not
saying you need to put Galen out of a job!"

Antwin laughed, but Jeneve still looked miserable.

"I just *couldn't* throw knives at people," she said.

"It's easy Jeneve, honestly," said Breezy. "It doesn't require
strength at all - it's all down to skill. Hey, that's why we women are
better at it than the guys, eh, Antwin?"

Antwin grinned and gave the redhead a friendly shove, but the
Warrenlady still looked disconsolate.

"No, you don't understand what I'm saying," she said. "It's not the
*throwing* that bothers me - it's throwing them at *people*! The
thought of a knife sinking into someone...." she shuddered. "It just
turns my stomach..."

"But Jeneve, you'll probably never, ever have to use them," said
Breezy, serious now. "It's just for self defence. It's just so that if
the one-in-a-million chance happens, you'll be able to look after
yourself."

One-in-a-million. Antwin and Breezy looked at one another as the
Warrenlady stared miserably at the knives. If only the chances of
trouble were that slim...

"Breezy, even *that* argument doesn't work," said Jeneve. "I'd only
have to use them if someone... attacked me, right? Well, the chances
would be that by the time something awful like that happened, they'd
be too close for me to throw anything anyhow. And do you really think
I could stab someone with a knife? When they're as close to me as you
are now?"

Jeneve covered her face with her hands. "Go on. Say it" she said, her
voice trembling. "I've gone and let everyone down again..."

<tag Wil and Tree - did you really think that it'd be easy to make Jen
into a lean, mean killing machine ;p
Wil - I didn't know what Antwin would be doing and saying throughout
this, so please add anything he'd do or say.
