Day 12
*Night (late). Just outside Norwall - Sabian and Cat*

<snip from Ben's post>

"I've covered a lot very fast. I suggest you practice everything for
a night or two, then I'll see how your doing. We can refine your
skills
and see where things go from there."

He smiled and said, "Sleep well Cat and don't kill anyone you won't
miss seeing."

With that he disappeared.

<end snip>

It was a full half hour before Cat returned to the warren. Strangely,
she didn't feel tired. And there were too many thoughts buzzing around
in her head for her to be able to sleep anyway.

*This* was what she was meant to do. It was just so ... well, 'right'.
For her, at least. If she'd met Sabian before she arrived at Norwall,
Cat had no doubt that she'd have followed him into his somewhat
dubious profession.

But she hadn't. From a scruffy urchin who'd arrived all those months
ago, telling them they needed a rat-catcher, and they wouldn't do
better than her, to become a dragon-rider.

And she'd met Kaymann. She'd known from the first time she saw him
that this was *her* kind of man. Admittedly, when they first met,
Kaymann had almost been responsible for breaking her arm and removing
several of her fingers, but she could forgive that. He'd just
happened to be on the wrong side then. And she'd have done exactly the
same had she been in his place... Kaymann was more of the 'daring
adventurer' than Cat was - he was a lot like Mentorn in that way. And
Cat was more interested in stealth and intrigue. But nevertheless, Cat
believed they were both facets of the same stone. Okay, they had some
pretty dramatic shouting matches, over the stupidest things. But Cat
knew that if anyone, just *anyone*, wanted to harm Kaymann, they'd
have to get through her first. He wouldn't like to know that, of
course - male ego and all that - and there probably wouldn't be much
she could do anyhow. But the thought was there.

And Anthra. Sometimes Cat really couldn't *stand* that dragon! Why'd
such a vicious and argumentative reptile have to choose *me*, Cat
thought. Anthra always knew exactly what snide comment would hit a
nerve. Sometimes Cat wished she shared the same kind of bond with her
draconian soulmate as, say, Naomi had with Amethyst. Or virtually any
of Norwall's riders with their dragons. But even still, Cat knew that
she couldn't live without Anthra. Knew that if either of them was in
deep trouble, the other would give up their life for them. At least
Cat *hoped* that Anthra would feel that way...

Maybe if Anthra lived the other side of the warren, and Cat didn't
have to see her so much, they'd get along better...

So - how could she fit all these complications into her already
confusing life. Her duties as a dragonrider. Anthra. Kaymann. Sabian,
and the life he'd suggested for her. Which was looking more and more
appealing.

Cat sighed, and got to her feet. Business as usual, she thought. Take
one day at a time. Just carry on doing all the things you want to do
until something stops you. Try to hang on to everything that's good
for
as long as you can. Enjoy it while it lasts.

NRPG: Sorry guys, Cat's doing the philosopher bit again. Yes, she does
have a thoughtful side ;-)
