[Sabian]
Sabian lay with his eyes closed, not sleeping as he rarely did that, but
just allowing his body to regain some measure of strength. There wasn't
much else he could do right now. He was in a cell courtesy of S'ron. That
man was a curiosity. He hadn't known him really, he just knew who he was.
Or who he had been. He hadn't been S'ron then or course, but piecing
together what Roz had said, it hadn't been too hard to fit the eveything
into place.
Roz, of course, was hurt. Sabian had never been able to figure out why
people make attachments so quickly. One night and you'd think the two of
them had been lifelong freinds. He didn't like betraying people. It wasn't
that he had done it out of spite, but it had sort of been necessary for him
to escape the night with his life.
Of course the young man hadn't been able to stay away. He had popped in a
while ago, but Sabian had left his eyes shut. The poor kid wouldn't
understand him. Not yet anyway. He was still reeling from the "betrayal".
Maybe in a little while, if he ever came around again, Sabian would talk to
him.
It was a little later when he felt another presence. It wasn't Roz and it
wasn't the guard ... he slitted an eye open and saw a young female face.
She was familiar in some way ... one of the people he had saved this night?
"Hi."
Well she had seen him looking. Might as well talk to her.
"Hello. Who are you?"
"You don't remember me? I'm Cat ... you and Roz saved me and a bard."
"No offense, but I went around killing a lot of things and saving a lot of
people."
"Why are you here?" She blurted out. She had obviously come here with that
burning question and her lips couldn't keep it in any longer.
Sabian didn't know what exactly he should tell her. It wasn't unheard of to
send a nice sweet face to charm inofrmation out of someone. But it didn't
really matter what he told them. S'ron knew enough to to whatever he was
going to do. And he was a little bored, so it might pass a little time to
just chat. Who knows, maybe she was really interested and would want to
help him escape. Fat chance, but at the very least it would pass time.
"I was hired to help with a hit."
"But why stay and help us out?"
"I didn't really have a choice. I got trapped inside by those things and it
made more sense to stay in a group than try to get out on my own. I just
had a streak of bad luck."
"S'ron says you're a cold blooded killer ... one of the worst he's ever
heard of."
"S'ron always put tpp much emotion in things. I don't run around with a
grim smile on my face whacking people. It's what I do to live. I don't
enjoy it or get a thrill out of it. That's why I'm good at it. You let your
feelings get in the way and you'll mess up."
"Why don't you think it's wrong to kill?" The funny thing was that her
voice didn't have a righteous edge. She was really curious why he thought
this ... she didn't have any sort of agenda. How interesting.
"These aren't good samaritans or lonely old women. I kill politicans. For
one they pay better ... but in the end, they all deserved to die. I'm not
robbing the world of any great men. If I'm there, you made me come."
