[DL-N] Back From The Past! (JP)

{Day 17 Med-Center Dawn to Early Morning}
Landon watched over Jasmine, his fatigue forcing him to sit beside the
bed. He took his meals at her bedside, not wanting to miss her waking
from her trauma. Vlad tromped out at odd hours to feed himself,
remaining in the medical area watching over Vandira the remainder of the
time.
The strong emotions emanating from the woman continuously assaulted his
psyche, driving him to the point of insanity only to bring him back.
The constant seesaw had long since broken through any walls Landon had
set up, causing his own memories to spill forth into his mind, creating
a lurid dreamscape that was a complete mixing of past and reality, a
scenario that Landon was only just barely able to distinguish between.
Voices of his mother and father drifted through his head, as well as
images from the past. Only the occasional cries of Jasmine kept him
from wandering back down the mists of time. His addled mind wasn't able
to derive much of what Jasmine was reliving, save that it may have been
from the past. When the sudden scream cut loose from her mouth, it
jolted Landon back to full awareness as he moved to gently stroke
Jasmine's arm, speaking to her soothingly.
"It's mine, give it back!" Jasmine said sharply. Even though she was
still restrained her hands moved as if she was grabbing at something. A
sob tore from her throat, "Kalena....Kalena....I can't feel you!" The
bottom lip came out in a pout and the young woman began whispering, "I
thought you would be proud of me Ka'Laren! They hurt Kalena! I kilt 'em!
I kilt the bad ones. They hurt Nana!" Visions of her sister, the
attackers and her past meshed together becoming indistinguishable from
each other. Something brushed her hand and she grabbed the edge of
Landon's vest holding it tightly. Inhuman sounds came from Jasmine, her
body tensing like an animal ready to strike. The feral noises she was
emitting grew louder and was having a definite affect on those in the
immediate area. One of the Lilliana's assistants realized what was
happening and went to notify the head healer.
Breezy had just arrived and was talking to Lilliana about Jasmine's
condition when the the healer's assistant came hurrying up. Explaining
quickly, that the wild woman's emotions were starting to affect those
around her.
Glancing at the redhead she sighed. Lilliana had been afraid of this,
she had already seen what Jasmine could do under emotional duress and it
wasn't something she wanted to experience again. Motioning for the
Wingleader to follow, the two woman went towards the back of the
center. The women both witnessed a change in the atmosphere as they
moved closer to the young woman. The faces of the patients grew solemn
and confused, Jasmine's outpouring filling them with a multitude of
emotions
"I was told she was an empath, but I didn't realize she could
broadcast!" Breezy said, growing concerned at seeing the foreboding
expressions on many of the faces they passed.
"Oh, trust me this is nothing compared to last time! Jasmine doesn't
understand what she is, and what she is capable of, her empathy is an
unconscious thing. Naomi had intended on working with the girl once she
was a little more orientated to warren life, unfortunately that never
happened. I know this sounds kind of crazy
but I don't think she is broadcasting in the normal sense.
"What do you mean?" Breezy asked, slightly puzzled.
"I've been watching her and Vandira and I think it's possibly a kind of
overflow of sorts, from both of them. I
know very little about the depth of the mind and how the different
abilities work. I can tell you though, that this is much different then
the last time Jasmine chose to grace us with her empathy." The older
woman blinked widening her eyes, remembering the incident.
A horrible growl echoed off the walls, the kind of sound that creeps up
the spine, seeping into the soul making a person unconsciously shudder
in fear. "It's my sword, I found it.....give....it...!" Jasmine
screamed out in a child's voice.
As the two women stepped behind the curtain separating Jasmine from the
rest of the room, Lilliana immediately starting checking her handiwork
all the while keeping an eye on the archer. He looked terrible and the
strain of his being in such close proximity to Jasmine was showing
plainly on his face.
"Damn Landon......" Breezy exclaimed, shaking her head as the younger
man looked up at her through blood shot eyes.
Landon could only gaze up at the redhead, "She's not going to die."
After explaining to the rider and the wingleader her prognosis, which
was good as far as the wounds themselves went. Then the Head Healer led
Breezy from the area, leaving Landon and Jasmine alone once more.
He laid his head down beside her, his willpower rent asunder from the
constant onslaught of her feelings, "I'm not leaving you Jasmine.
You're going to be okay. Do you hear me, Jasmine, you're going to be
okay."
He had heard the prognosis from Lilliana but based on his own experience
there was still a clear and present danger. Tears flowed unbidden from
his eyes as he prayed silently to the powers that be that she would
recover fully, mind and body. He knew he wouldn't be able to stand
another death like his mother's. He drifted into unconsciousness, his
eyes still wet as he let his fears and worries pour forth.
The two woman went back to the healer's office. Lilliana closed the door
and motioned for Breezy to sit.
The redhead leaned back in the chair and looking at the older woman
asked, "Landon looks terrible, just how badly do you think this is
affecting him."
"He's a mess, that's obvious!" Lilliana answered sitting down at her
desk.
"Maybe if you order him out?"
The Head Healer laughed, the sound echoing oddly off the walls. "He
refuses to leave her which is understandable, but under the
circumstances........" the gray haired woman let her sentence drop then
adding with a grin, "and not even my more larger assistants want to
tangle with the archer, mainly because he comes packing a very large
blue dragon."
Breezy chuckled. "Yeaahh, I would say that would be a pretty good
deterrent for me, too." Then growing serious she asked, So what are
you going to do?"
The gray-haired woman rubbed her brow, "Basically, all I can do at that
moment is to keep her as quiet as possible which trust me, has proven
more than difficult. For some crazy reason Jasmine has been able to
sluff off any of the drugs I've given her to keep her calm. A normal
person would be totally comatose by now, but our wild child still
continues to be delusional. Her outbursts are what's causing the
problem and Vandira is only intensifying it with her feelings."
"Wow!" The redhead sighed, "That does present a problem!"
Lilliana leaned back in her chair, "Her wounds as I stated earlier are
healing nicely, it's her mind I am worried about. It's almost as
if......." the Healer hesitated, "I can heal just about any wound you
throw at me but the mind, that's a whole different story. Unfortunately
we have no mind healers here and I'm not even sure they could help
anyway. And then this mysterious ailment that is plaguing dragons and
humans alike....." the woman shook her head looking completely
frustrated.
A loud hi-pitched scream echoed off the wall setting both woman's teeth
on edge. Hurrying back to the curtained area Jasmine was once again
violently throwing herself against the restraints with Landon
unsuccessful in calming her.
Breezy's heart went out to the young man seeing the helpless look on his
face as he tried to keep the woman he loved from hurting herself. The
young woman's words made little sense to the redhead but Kalena's name
was very prominent in her vocalization.
"Lilliana, is there nothing you can do?" Breezy asked, her voice coming
out in a whisper.
Taking Breezy by the arm the two women walked back through the med
center. "I just can't give her any more medicine, I've already given her
more then enough already! It's..it's, almost as if Jasmine's lost in her
mind somehow. This trauma, I think has unlocked the secrets of her past
and I don't think her childlike mind is able to handle it!" The Sr.
Wingleader blinked in surprise at the older woman. Lilliana smiled at
the short woman, "Of course that's just an observation."
Falling silent for a moment, the healer continued, "If Naomi was better
she might have some way to help Jasmine. Other than letting nature take
it's course, I don't know what else to do."
Breezy looked at the woman, "You know Lady, you probably need to get
some rest yourself, but I can see from the look on your face that's out
of the question."
Lilliana laughed, "Like they say Healer's make the worst patients!"
"I wish I could be of more help! I'll check back later! If there's
anything you need just holler! "
The healer nodded patting the small woman on the shoulder, "Thank you!
Lilliana walked back to the area where Jasmine was. Peeking around the
curtain she noticed that the young woman was finally resting
peacefully. She just shook her head seeing Landon leaning in such a way
that his head rested on the bed next to her. Fortunately, with Jasmine
quiet for the moment at least he could get a little rest. The man
desperately needed rest, if this went on to much longer the Healer knew
it would only be a matter of time before he collapsed or she would have
to order him a bed also.
{Several Hours Later]
Jasmine was sitting in a field of white flowers, they smelled so good
and reminded her so much Momma! She wished so much that Momma hadn't
gone or had at least taken her along. But no that wouldn't be good
either. Kalena said that was a place only dragons went, and if she went
with Momma she would never see Landon again.
She didn't know where he came from, but he knelt down next to her
looking at her flowers then smiling so nice at her.
*Jasmine, Landon doesn't care about you! He thinks you're a baby!*
Ka'Laren's deep voice broke through her dreams. "If he really cared, he
would have come by now!"
Jasmine whimpered softly as a battle was waged in her mind as the faces
of her friend and her lover intertwined.
"It's ok Lan...Ka'Laren's my frie....* she whispered softly. Jasmine's
body convulsed in the next instant, as if she had been hit by some
unseen force. Out of no where a hand slid into hers and she kept hearing
someone calling her name!
*Land....* her mind called out, gripping the hand tightly, her voice was
barely audible, "Wh...doesn't it....hur...."
*Whoever is calling me is getting closer. The fire is so bright and
Kalena looks so scared and why does Landon look so strange. What
happened to Ka'Laren, where did he go, he was just here.*
The images began to swirl like clouds in a fine mist and the voice moved
away. "Don't go!" she called out frantically as her mind slipped back
into the void of unconsciousness.
[a little while later]
The minds battle waged and the victor sat by her side and Jasmine stared
into the beautiful green eyes she had come to know so well. His lips
touched hers and Jasmine was consumed by desire.
Jasmine began to moan softly, her hands flexing erratically against the
restraints. Vandira woke with a start. The young dragon yawned, it was
exhausting trying to be there for her rider, the old guy was being very
nice but Jazz-a-mean was just plain wearing her out.
The little green dragon wasn't sure how much more she could take when a
ripple of pleasure shot through the scaly body and her yellowish-green
eyes widened. Lifting her head to nuzzle her riders cheek Vandira
smiled, her sharp teeth shiny in the dim light. Laying her head back
down she sighed, if Jazz-a-mean kept dreaming like this, it was going
to be a very nice nap.
"Landon," Jasmine moaned softly. The archer had dozed off leaning on the
bed, he woke instantly hearing his name. Sliding his hand around hers
he leaned close to her ear gently stoking her hair.
"I'm here Jasmine!" he whispered brushing her ear with his lips.
The contact was electric and the dreaming woman reacted instantly.
"Landon!" she moaned louder, jerking her face towards his. Jasmine
began toss slightly in the bed, arching to meet unseen hands. Her body
shuddering slightly as she moved.
A happy chortling came from the two dragons as Landon realized just
exactly what Jasmine was dreaming about.
"Lilliana will probably kill me for this," Landon muttered as he
unbuckled the restraints, which had bruised her wrists while she had
struggled. He firmly grasped a wrist, chafing it to help blood flow
back into her hands. Her continued moaning and writhing brought back
vivid memories of their first encounter. He was admittedly aroused but
given both of their conditions, it wouldn't be wise to indulge in more
primal passions.
**For once I'd have to agree with you, although those restraints could
be put to use when she's healthy.**
<Well, at least you're still in fine form. How's Vandira doing?>
**Resting peacefully, for once, although she's giving me a few
interesting images. I'm thinking she needs to mate, and soon!**
<Cool the hormones, Vlad. Once Jasmine recovers, both mentally and
physically, then we can think about that. For right now, just keep an
eye out for the healer or her orderlies. I don't think they'll be too
happy that I removed her restraints and I'd like to be prepared when
they stop by.>
Jasmine, sensing the freedom instantly rolled on her side, wincing in
pain from the movement. The green dragon's head jerked up instantly
catching Landon's attention. Looking back at Jasmine her eyes were
half-open but, there was no coherency in them. The normal bright eyes
were dark with confusion, and the small green dragon laid her head down
again, sighing in frustration.
Grabbing the warm hands touching her Jasmine pulled them close to her
chest. A small sigh escaped her lips as the blue eyes closed
peacefully.
