Day 15 - early evening

Jeneve was singing softly to herself.

"If she doesn't quit that racket soon, I'm gonna..."

Silk looked round to see Lace raise her hand to strike the warrenlady
across the back of the head.

"No!" she said, sharply. "Remember what he said about 'damaged
goods'?"

"But she'll bring down every patrol for miles onto us,"

That was true. Silk knelt down beside Jeneve, who was bound, and had a
bag tied over her head. The muffled singing continued.

"Honey, you've got to stop that singing," said Silk, in a gentle
voice.

Lace snickered. But Jeneve stopped.

"Why?" asked Jeneve. "Don't you like it?"

"It's lovely singing, but.."

"An' why's the lights gone out? Wha's happening?" demanded Jeneve,
petulantly.

"Because it's night-time, honey," said Silk. "And you mustn't sing at
night-time, because people are trying to sleep."

"Oh!" said Jeneve. "Iss dark 'cos iss night-time?"

"That's right,"

"Sorry. Won't sing any more. Not til morning..."

"That's good," said Silk, rising to her feet again and rolling her
eyes.

"S'good job I'm not scared of the dark," Jeneve babbled on.

"How long does that stuff you gave her last?" Silk asked her lover, in
exasperation.

"Not usually this long," replied Lace. "But I did give her a big dose.
And maybe she's sort of sensitive to that kind of thing."

"Well, if she carries on for much longer," said Silk, rapidly losing
patience with the warrenlady. "I'll *help* you shut her up, and damn
the consequences..."
