[DL-N] To Defend

Day 15 - late night
Ahktor and the three Travelers watched as Sutek came to join them, a grin
on his face, "Forgive my tardiness, Ahktor. I was otherwise occupied. What
are we dealing with?"
"Do not worry, Sutek. I am well aware of what you were doing and it was
within your Task. Had you not arrived at all would have been a different
matter. The warren is under attack from rogue dragonriders," Ahktor
explained.
Imani looked puzzled, "Rogues? I was only aware of those that were within
the warrens."
The silver-sashed leader nodded, "As were all of us. I intend to meet with
both Jeneve and Breezy on this fact."
Vodon looked at Ahktor, "Both of them?"
Ahktor nodded, "Yes. Jeneve is a young leader who will require training,
something I will help with, if she accepts. The one known as Breezy is her
seneschal, supporting her when needed. I meant to have breakfast with her
today, but other matters came to pass. I did manage to schedule something
for tomorrow with her. And later, provided that the battle doesn't go too
long, I will work with Jeneve on being a leader."
Ahktor looked around at them, an eerie silence pervading, as if they were
communing with each other, becoming innately aware of the other's strengths
and weaknesses, internally protecting themselves for the coming battle, "As
is the way, when our charges are in danger, so shall we defend them," the
leader spoke, the words carrying the weight of many generations of
tradition.
"Prepare."
Without a word the Travelers removed their blue robes, revealing hard,
muscular bodies, each one covered with colored tattoos of blue, red and
green. They wore what appeared to be leather armor that covered their
torsos just down past mid calf. The chest was reinforced with a light chain
material. Leather armbands covered the lower arm. Each one bore two
baldrics, holding a weapon in each. Of the five, Ahktor was the most
heavily marked, the tattoos covering those areas not protected by the armor.
Reaching back, he took out two glittering swords, each about three feet in
length and slightly curved. The handles were black and long enough that two
hands could be used to wield each one, but Ahktor held each with the grace
and ease of a master of many years.
Imani swiveled, sensing danger to her charges, she carried what appeared to
be two short spears, the blades nearly as long as the haft. In a flash, the
two became one, a whirling double bladed staff as she searched for the
enemy. A flicker of movement caught her eyes and she spotted two archers
preparing to let fire, she made a step towards them when a loud clang
followed by another dropped the two to the ground.
Sutek heard the sounds and looked over towards the commotion, noting Imani'
s preparedness. He held two small scythes in either hand. He saw Delilah,
a frying pan in hand, "Delilah, the woman is full of surprises."
Imani gave him a look as he smiled at the girl as she saluted and
disappeared back into the shadows, "Surprises, eh?"
Sutek smirked, "The benefits of being the blue-sashed, Imani."
Imani muttered something inaudible, taking up her position by Ahktor on his
right. To the left stood Vodon, holding a short staff in one hand and an
oversized axe. Completing the circle of five was Sutek, holding his two
small scythes and Talog, with two small staves. As before, they stood
facing outward.
Ahktor looked around, "They are being flanked."
In unison, the five moved in harmony where the invaders were breaking
through on the sides. They advanced without hesitation upon the enemy,
their targets standing their ground, a bit unsure of what to expect from the
tall, muscled warriors. The first one simply stood there as Ahktor's sword
flashed, neatly severing the soldiers head from his body. Then the chaos
ensued.
The circle moved effortlessly, their moves perfectly choreographed, each
one setting another up. Ahktor would block a blade away, leaving the
attacker open to be skewered by Imani's spear. Vodon would cleave through a
person after being stunned by Talog's staff. Round and round they went,
their attackers falling before them, their efforts never flagging. Each one
knew that it would be a long night, but they would not fail. Forward they
moved, sealing the flank and continuing onward into the main body of armed
men, slashing, piercing and chopping with brutal efficiency.

NRPG: Okay, so the five are moving through the battle. If someone gets in
trouble, they'll surround that person and defend them. Other than that, let
the battle continue.
