[DL-R] Preparations

A slip of paper appeared on Sabian's doorstep a lot sooner than he had
expected. After reading the note he knew why it was here so soon · it
wasn't the one he had been expecting. However, he was not the type of
guy to pass up a paying job, so·

Luther Weaver turned out to have a real challenge for him. He wanted
two people dead, both of them "accidents". Most of the people Sabian
worked with didn't have a preference on how the person died · just that
they did indeed die. "Accidents" were always more enjoyable because
they were harder to pull off.

The other man had visibly paled at the price Sabian named, but after a
good deal of grumbling, he paid the half he had promised. Sabian
usually demanded full payment up front · but this job was actually a bit
challenging. Besides, he knew he would the full payment eventually.

He left silently when the other man's back was turned, which was sure to
annoy Luther even more. Sabian made a quick decision and headed off for
the hospital · might as well do the one he could find first.

<..>

The hospital was a busy place at any time of day and there were certain
times when it was barely ordered chaos. During one of these peak times
a normal looking man slipped into the crowd. The receptionist saw so
many faces that day that there was no way she would remember one in
particular ... even if it had odd eyes.

The nurses outside Mrs. Weaver's door didn't notice the man either.
They kept on with their conversation about a sedative for the poor woman
· she was having trouble sleeping. The failed to see the slight grin on
the face of a passerby when they mentioned the sedative.

The head orderly never even saw the man · she did notice that there
seemed to be one less orderly uniform · but with all the new staff they
were getting, she passed it off without a second thought.

In fact, for all the hospital staff knew, this man never visited. No
one would have been able to point him out · even with his odd eyes.

<..>

The jailhouse wasn't quite as busy. The guard on duty was getting
bored, so when a man came in and asked to visit Mery and Toral, he
decided to let him in. When the man stopped at the last minute and said
he had changed his mind, the guard was vaguely annoyed, but it had given
him something to do, so he really didn't care.

Five minutes after the man had left, the guard had completely forgotten
what he looked like · except that he had odd eyes.

<..>

If the forest animals had any type of memory they too would have
remembered the eyes of the man who strolled through their home.
However, since the memory of a forest dwelling squirrel lasts all of two
seconds, the man went wholly unnoticed · even with his odd eyes.

<..>

Sabian lay on his bed, eyes closed, but not really sleeping. He didn't
really sleep all that often · it wasn't a wise thing to do in his line
of work. His mind went over the things he had learned today and a slow
satisfied smile crept onto his face.

The hospital visit had been extremely profitable · the uniform in the
corner attested to that. The jail visit had let him see Mery and Toral,
the two Luther Weaver said were connected with his second target,
without letting them see him. The forest trip had gotten him used to
with the terrain where this second target was supposedly hiding. All in
all, it had been a good day.
