"So where's mom?" Byrin asked as he walked into the Rest. "And Toral? I
stopped by the smithy on my way home and he wasn't there."

"They went out fishing, I believe," Issic told him, "They haven't made it
home yet."

Byrin' chuckled, "Probably out rolling around in the grass, eh Issic .."

"Byrin! Now I know your mother wouldn't appreciate that sort of talk."

"Eh .. probably not. But come on Issic, I'm not stupid. I know all about sex."

"Oh you do, do you?"

"Sure." Byrin said puffing up his chest. Issic raised and eyebrow and the
lad shrugged, "Okay maybe not *all* about it .. but I know enough."

"Enough for what?" A sweet voice said from behind him.

Byrin froze, "Umm .." he turned to face Irina and swallowed hard. He
suddenly wished the floor would swallow him whole rather than discuss that
subject with the lovely young woman who was looking at him now. "Umm ..
nothing .. I .. I gotta go do some homework." He sped out of the bar and to
the back of Rest.

Issic chuckled softly and Irina shook her head, "You shouldn't tease him,
Issic. He's a nice boy."

"Have you tried talking to her at all."

Morgat shook his head, "I can't get close. I keep getting shooed out of the
med center. 'No Visitors' they tell me." He frowned, "Except of course
family .."

"Which means Luther .." Mery cringed and Toral squeezed her hand comfortingly.

"I don't think you'll have to worry about Luther .."

"Oh I don't know, I imagine once Margaret is up and around .. he'll be
right there. If only to bully her into testifying against Linaya." Mery
spat.

"I don't think so .. not this time."

"What do you mean?" Toral asked.

"Well, I understand Margaret is refusing to see him."

"She is??" Mery asked incredulously.

"Well for what it's worth. She is his wife."

Mery frowned. "So therefore he owns her?!  That man is so insufferable!"

"Well it is a man's world in the landbound cities, my dear. If you feel so
strongly about women's rights you should move to the warren."

Toral rolled his eyes and prepared for what was coming next.

"The warren! I'm a moral woman and would never be able to live around those
dragonriders who think nothing flitting from bed to bed. But that doesn't
mean I like to see woman brutalized by their husbands." She narrowed her
eyes at him, "You aren't that kind of a man are you."

Morgat smiled, "No, I'm not. However we must be prepared for what the
lawyers and judges are going to say. And honestly Ms. Barman, your attitude
won't help. There's many men who think all you need is a man like Luther to
tame you."

Mery cringed, but kept her silence. Toral rubbed her arm comfortingly

Just then a man servant stepped into the room. "I'm here to escort you to
the dining room."

Morgat stood, "Then I'd best be on my way. I'll be back to see you
tomorrow, let you know what new I find out."

"Thank you, Morgat," Toral said shaking hands with the barrister.

Then offering Mery his arm they followed the servant out of the room and
down the ornate corridor of the castle.
