R'chis and Kay hopped of Pech's back when they landed a short distance

from the lake. Laria ran up to them, "I'm so glad you to are here. Come

on they're just starting a fire and I think they could use some help. She

smiled and grabbed one arm from each, pulling them toward the small crowd

that was beginning to gather.


Kay followed, but was soon lost in the confusion of everyone talking at

the same time. He sat a short distance away watching a world he couldn't

be a part of. He would never be able to listen to two conversations at

once. At a party like this he was at a decided disadvantage. He had

realized this at the party following the hatching, but it became

painfully evident here. He tried to maintain a smile on his face as

people danced and whirled and smiled in front of him.


He noticed Tera with a man he didn't know, as they sang to the crowd and

again missed that he couldn't hear what was going on. He picked up his

slate, that was tucked neatly in his belt and began to sketch with chalk

the scene in front of him. It was then that he realized he hadn't had

much time to do any painting or drawing. His time had been taken up with

Sabbith. He reached out his mind to touch the dragon.


<italic><<I am here, Kay,> said the dragonet sleepily. <<Why are you

sad?>

</italic>

<italic><<I'm not sad,> said Kay, <<I just .. don't fit in well in

crowds. I can't follow what goes on.>

</italic>

<italic><<If you had brought me I could have told you.>

</italic>

Kay grinned, <italic><<Yes, but you are getting so big, my clumsy

Sabbith, that you might have hurt someone.>

</italic>

<italic><<I am not clumsy, > said Sabbith indignantly, <<I am just ..

exuberant. That's what Vithraena called it.> indignantly

</italic>

<italic><<Yes, she is right, sweet Sabbith. But you should be sleeping. I

can feel how tired you are.>

</italic>

<italic><<Yes, I am tired,></italic> came the yawn. 


Kay let Sabbith drift off to sleep as he sat watching the crowd.
