<Kay, Sunburst and Eclipse say that we will have a picnic tomorrow for
lunch because you and I are on patrol this afternoon with Danielle.>
Sabbith called to Kay.

<Tell them that's fine with me, Sabbith.>

<Why don't you tell them yourself?> asked the dragon.

Kay thought for a minute. He usually only talked to other dragons when he
was standing in front of them. Not like with Sabbith where he was always in
contact with him, no mater where they were.

<Sunburst, Eclipse, tell Laya tomorrow for lunch will be fine.>

<Oh good.> came the sweet voice of Sunburst.

<We are looking forward to it,> said the slightly lower voice of Eclipse.

<Now was that so difficult,> chuckled Sabbith.

Kay grinned at his dragon, <No, I just never thought much about it.>

<Violet is waiting for us on the green.> said Sabbith.

Kay nodded and quickly cleaned his paintbrush before hoping on the dark red
back and flying down to meet Danielle.

Sabbith circled down to the green and Kay hopped off and headed toward his
partner. As she turned to look at him he felt his pulse quicken, and a rush
of heat run through his body. His eyes opened wide in surprise, wondering
where this feeling had come from. He saw Danielle look toward the sky and
he turned to see a blinding platinum form shoot through the sky. 

He was surprised to see Sabbith was no longer on the ground behind him, but
instead flying among a flock of multicolored dragons chasing the platinum
form. <Sabbith?>

<It's a queen, Kay. Wouldn't it be grand to cuddle a queen.>

He turned to see Danielle's eyes watching him, "It's a mating fight, Kay."
she said.

He looked back to the sky as the demand grew within him. Even as his eyes
filled with desire, a touch of uncertainty weeded it's way through him as
he realized what this meant. H'nry had explained it several times to him
and the others. He looked back at Danielle, *What do I do?* he signed. Then
realized that it was a stupid question technically, but emotionally, he was
afraid.

Danielle smiled at him and pushed him toward the queenrider, already
encircled with hopeful males. Now that the object of his longing was in his
view, he found himself drawn to her, unable to hold back.

Sabbith soared happily following the queen. A large charcoal male rushed
past him, pushing the dark red aside as he flew. As another dragon pushed
by him, Sabbith growled. He put on a burst of speed, but it was a far cry
from enough to catch the more experienced males. Finally, seeing the royal
blue catching the queen quite a ways ahead of him, Sabbith fell back,
circling down and landing next to his rider.

Kay slowly sat down next to Sabbith, trying to get past the whirling
emotions that filled him. <I'm sorry, Kay> said Sabbith sadly, <I wasn't
worthy.>

<That's quite alright, Sweet Sabbith, I don't think I would have been
either. That was quite an experience.>

<Yes, but it would have been better if I'd won.> muttered Sabbith.

Kay became aware of Danielle standing over him. His emotions were still
raging, and the sight of her was enough to set them off again. He looked
away quickly not wanting her to notice.

She sat down next to him, "Are you okay?"

He nodded, and she took his hand, resting her head on his shoulder. He
began to relax a bit, just enjoying her company and her closeness. 

Suddenly he pushed her back a bit and signed, *What about our patrol?*

She smiled, "Don't worry, you need to sit for a while first. We'll go in a
little bit. For now, just relax." He nodded, taking her hand in his. She
was right, he needed time to pull himself back together.

NRPG: Kat, Just some quiet time, then they can go patrol :} After all it's
Kay's first mating flight, he's not yet learned how to deal with losing them.
