Kay was sitting at breakfast when he saw Lyonnia walk in. It was the first
time he'd seen her since the kidnapping and his realization that he heard
her cry for help. He had heard from the dragons about the death of her
father, and he wanted to give her his condolences as well as ask her about
her cry for help.
He watched her closely waiting for an opportunity to catch her eye. When he
finally did, he waved at her motioning for her to join him.
"Hi Kay," she said as she sat across from him.
*I'm sorry about your father,* he signed.
She nodded, "Thanks."
*I've something I want to ask you.*
"What is it?"
He signed very slowly adding some pantomime to get his point to her, as he
didn't want her to misunderstand him. *The other day, when the dragon took
you .. you screamed, 'Help!'*
"Did I ? I don't remember."
He shook his head, *No, not with your voice. With your head. I wouldn't
hear your voice, but I heard you scream.*

Kay was working on the wall painting of Sabbith, standing on Sabbith's
shoulders. It was coming along nicely, though it was no longer life-sized
as Sabbith had gotten bigger. <Are you ever going to stop growing?> asked Kay.
<Maybe,> sighed the large red dragon. <I'm still not as large as Domino.>
<You probably will never catch Domino. He's going to be almost as big as
the Queen!>
<I should like to be as large as the Beryth,> said Sabbith.
<It's not going to happen, Sweet Sabbith. You are ~not~ a queen.>
<*Kalewyn, Sweet Sabbie, are you ready?*> the rider and his dragon heard
the harmonious voices of Sunburst and Eclipse call.
<I love listening to the two of them talk at the same time,> Sabbith
purred, <It's almost like music.>
Kay shrugged, <If you say so. I only know what they sound like .. not what
music sounds like.>
<Hmm, I shall have to sing for you, Kay.> the dragon chuckled.
Kay ignored him, <We are coming Sunburst and Eclipse, tell Tahlaya we'll
meet her on the green.>
Kay jumped off Sabbith's back, and hurried to clean his brushed and palette
before meeting Sabbith on the ledge. Soon they were gliding down toward the
green where the unmistakable form of the two-headed dragon and their rider
were waiting for them. *I'm sorry you had to wait,* Kay signed from
Sabbith's back as the crimson dragon landed gently.
*I didn't wait long,* Tahlaya signed back. Signing from dragon-back beat
calling loudly to be heard.
The girls gave Kay and Sabbith a picture of a quiet clearing, and soon they
were back in the air, ready to teleport.
***
Kay sat finishing the last bite of his pie, *Yummy!* he signed.
Tahlaya grinned, "I'm glad you liked it."
Kay looked over the empty picnic basket. He couldn't believe they had
finished everything she had brought. *It was wonderful. Thank you.*
Laya smiled pleased that he had liked it. Through the entire meal she'd
been wanting to ask him about what had happened with the caravan. She had
heard from the girls that something had upset the young man and his dragon,
but apparently Sabbith had not wanted to discuss it with them.
"Kay," she said, "What happened with the caravan?"
Kay's face grew distant as he remembered meeting his cousin. But surely she
wasn't talking about that! So he began to sign/pantomime the kidnapping of
Lyonnia as he had seen it.
Tahlaya shook her head, "That's not what I was talking about. Sunburst and
Eclipse tell me something up set Sabbith."
Kay frowned, not wanting to think about it anymore, *It was nothing.* But
Laya could see the hurt in his eyes.
"I don't believe that. You know just because I don't get to see you
everyday like we did before we were assigned to different wings, doesn't
mean I don't worry when something bothers you." She rumpled his hair,
looking at him with a concerned smile, "We are still friends after all."
Kay nodded but the frown didn't leave his face, nor the hurt leave his
eyes. *It's my cousin.* he signed with sad hands. *He doesn't like me much.
I ran away ..* Once he began Kay's hands took on a life of their own,
telling her the whole story, from his parents death to Rufus' destruction
of his painting and his subsequent fleeing from the ranch. Laya had to stop
him a couple of times to slow him down as his movements at times became
almost frantic.
*Sabbith wanted to flame him, but Dalanth stopped him. I didn't even see
him until he was almost on top of us. The worst part is that as always
Titus made me feel very very small. All in front of Danielle,* He paused,
then added, *and H'nry and Lyonnia.*
Titus
***
The caravan, moving slowly was now only a day away from the Warren. They
would arrive first thing in the morning. Evart was his condescending self
as always and Titus' hatred for the man grew. Not to mention now that he
didn't have the whore, he had not release for his pent up anger and
frustrations.
Evart had no right to take her! He'd paid good money for her and now it was
all wasted. He hoped she was at the Warren as he intended to make sure he
still got his money's worth.

NRPG: Lea, feel free to fill in the picnic as desired :} I also wanted to
make sure that the caravan didn't arrive before Ophelia got back from the
Council as I think it's best that she be there when they do. Of course that
doesn't stop anyone from flying out to meet them before hand :}
