Sabbith saw Kay rush the other human. Then he felt the rush of fear, and ..
Sabbith moved quickly seeing the belt knife through his human's eyes. The
man was going to kill his human. Sabbith could not let this happen.

<Kay??> the dragon called, but there was no response from his human. For
the first time ever, Kay wasn't hearing him. Or at least wasn't answering.
Sabbith's heart froze as he charged toward the man. There was no time to
think, no time to consider the consequences. He had to protect Kay.

He felt the flame building up in the pit of his stomach only seconds before
he flew from his open jaws, jetting toward the human that threatened Kay.
At first, watching the man's clothes and then flesh burn, Sabbith felt
relief. Kay was safe! He roared in triumph. 

Then his eyes met Kay's, as the young man looked up at him. Suddenly
Sabbith realized what he'd done. Kay's attacker lay writhing in flame, then
suddenly fell still. He was dead. Sabbith had killed a human. He fell to
the ground shocked by what had happened, as he watched Danielle move to
help Kay.

It wasn't long before he felt two taunt forms surround him. It was the two
heads of Eclipse and Sunburst. He let his body collapse in their embrace as
he began to keen softly. He felt Kay's comforting presence once again in
his head, though neither of them spoke.

Kalewyn

Kay stared up at the dark crimson dragon - his protector. He had been so
sure that knife was going to end his life and he would never again feel the
comforting presence of the dragon who had in such a short time become his
life.

He looked back at the man who had threatened both he and Danielle. Then he
felt warm arm encircle him. He turned to see Danielle there, "Are you
alright?" she asked.

He could barely find the strength to nod, yet he did. He could barely
believe what had happened. As he watched the crowd beginning to gather, all
he could think of was how much he wanted to be away from the village and
back home, where he could curl up and .. forget.
