As they appeared above the village, Violet said to Danielle,

(Sundee's rider wants to talk with you.Said she has a message for you and=

Danielle landed with the others and as soon as they landed they were=20
confronted by a stranger. As H'nry and Lyonnia went off with one of the=20
men, the rest split up into pairs to look around the village.

Kay kept fingering his slingshot and looking about nervously. Danielle=20
sighed. She didn't think anything was going to happen. This was a quiet=20
village and even if the raiders had been here, they didn't appear to be now=
.
She gripped Kay's arm in reassurance and smiled at him. She thought he=20
was a wonderful friend and was very glad he was her partner. She did=20
trust him....in her own way.

> They walked around one of the nearby building looking for anything that
> would appear out of the ordinary. Danielle wasn't exactly sure what to=20
look for, but one things was sure, she was keeping an eye out for=20
Trap....just in case.

> Kay and Danielle stopped short when a young man about Kay=92s size steppe=

> front of them. It was the young gaudily dressed man. "Out taking in the

Danielle frowned. She got very bad feelings from this man. "We're just=20
looking, you might as well leave us alone."

> "Oh ya do." the man laughed. He put an arm around Danielle breathing into
> her face. "I=92ll show ya where the good stuff is."

Danielle couldn't believe it when the man put his arm around her and=20
breather stale wine into her face. She blanched.

> Now Kay was frowning, he pushed the man back, *Keep your distance,* he
> signed, knowing that the man probably wouldn=92t understand it any way.

> The man grabbed Kay=92s arm, twisting it painfully, "I don=92t need you p=
ushing
> me that waving your arms in my face either."  He released Kay, pushing hi=

> back a few paces then turned his attention back to Danielle, "Now where w=
as
> I?"

> "You were about to be sorry you picked on us." Danielle said sweetly.

> Kay was scared for Danielle. What if this creep hurt her? He shook his ar=

> carefully and moved back to Danielle, placing himself between her and the
> obnoxious stranger.

> "Now listen, ~friend~." The man snarled. "I don=92t want to hurt you, but
> you=92re coming between me and the lady, and I don=92t like that much." H=

> grabbed Kay by the shirt collar, pushing him off to the side. Still hangi=
ng
> on to his shirt the man growled, "If I have to tell you one more time ..
> I=92m gonna have to waste you." He forcefully shoved Kay, knocking him
> against a barrel, before turning his attention back to Danielle.

Danielle watched in horror as the man pushed Kay away and into a barrel.=20
Then her attention was drawn again by the man who had grabbed her arm=20
roughly. "Come, on, you and I are going to have a little fun." The next=20
thing Danielle knew was his breath in her face as he had started to kiss=20
her and a his hand found her breast. Suddenly she heard a roar and Kay=20
was launching himself at them

> Both the man and Danielle looked at Kay in surprise. The man did not have
> time to react before Kay=92s full weight was thrown against him, knocking
> both of them off balance.  Suddenly Kay felt hand pulling at him from
> behind. It distracted him as he turned to find out who it was.  As he
> looked up at Danielle who was screaming at him to stop, he felt a fist so=
ck
> his face, knocking him back to the ground again. He put his hand to his
> face where there was blood coming from the corner of his mouth.

Danielle had to stop Kay. He'd get hurt. She tried to pull him away from=20
the man. Suddenly he was on the ground again when this man had punched=20
him. Danielle headed towards the man furiously then stopped dead in her=20
tracks when she saw the knife.

> The man pulled out a belt knife and grinned evilly at Kay. "I told ya wha=
t
> would happen now didn=92t I." He started moving toward the fallen lad.

Danielle was frozen, her eyes focused on that knife, her mind going back=20
to the knife that Tes had threatened her with. She couldn't move as the=20
man advanced on Kay. Suddenly there was a rush of dragonfire over their=20
heads and the man was engulfed in flames, screaming, burning alive. The=20
screamsbwere silenced quickly as the man died before her eyes.

Then Danielle saw Kay on the ground, trembling and her heart went out to=20
him. She was immediately by his side, pulling him into her arms, stroking=
=20
his hair. "It'll be alright" she murmured, knowing he couldn't hear her,=20
but needing to say it all the same. She knew it wasn't going to be alright.
Sabbith had just killed a man. This wasn't going to be taken lightly. It=20
had been in self defense, but would they listen. Danielle just continued=20
to stroke Kay's hair and held him tightly. Whatever happened, she would=20
be there for him. He had gotten into this trying to help her. He was her=20
partner and her friend.
