[DL-T/G] More Grief

[Laria]

She found Kay an interesting person to speak to. While she could still see
the effects of his landbound upbringing, it seemed he was adjusting well to
warren ways. Considering the size and speed and popularity of his dragon,
he was going to have to. Sabbith was the classic mating flight winner.

Then her stomach twisted again.

[Are you okay?] he wrote.

"My stomach's just a little upset," she explained.

[I'll take you to the med center,] he wrote, handing her the slate and
moving to get her clothes.

"No!" she protested at once.

He looked at her in concern and she forced herself to smile and take his hand.

"No, it's okay. I don't need to go. Besides, I'm really needed at the office."

The young man nodded, though there was some doubt in his eyes.

They quickly got dressed and she gave him a light kiss goodbye and headed
for the warrenlady's office.

She sat, considering the letters, files, records, and warren business and
slowly began to wade through them.

******

She had lunch in the office. Shortly afterward, she was surprised as the
woman Kattibrie stepped in.

"Kattibrie, what are you doing here?"

"Thomas sent me here for training," Kattibrie explained.

"Oh, yes. I forgot. Vithraena mentioned your queen, but it was just
moments before she flew to mate." Laria smiled at the memory and was
surprised as the woman flushed slightly. Odd. "At any rate, I'm afraid I
don't really know how to *train* you, but I sure could use the help. I
guess we'll learn together."

And so they spent a couple of hours before the sounds of bugling dragons
filled the warren.

<What is it, Vithraena, love?>

<It is Dalanth and Dianthus. They have found wraiths!>

Her eyes met the older girl's eyes. "Oh no!"

<Send to...> She thought hard. Alpha Wing was a bit in dissaray with
Retala so sick. <... Dinnan to tell his rider to get the riders from Beta
Wing assembled and coaled up.> That wouldn't be enough, though. Most of
them would be unreachable out on patrol. Who next? <And call for Cloud to
tell his rider to assemble Delta Wing.> She knew that she was sending
R'chis, L'sein and her brother B'rin into the combat, but it had to be
done. She sent a prayer that they would be well.

******

[B'rin]

When the call came, B'rin headed from the Medical Center, where his mother
lay in and out of consciousness, to where Kalon awaited him. They
assembled quickly.

He looked over to see L'sein wrap Eliana in his arms and kiss her soundly
before the man mounted his dragon.

B'rin felt his face burn in anger at the thought of L'sein with the
innocent Eliana. Their dragons mounted to the sky and Cloud sent the
image from Dianthus.

But B'rin couldn't get the thought of L'sein and Eliana out of his mind.
He just wanted to get away from here-- from L'sein, from his mother's
illness, from his father's absence...

Storm's arm dropped.

Kalon blinked out.

******

[L'sein]

As they blinked in over the gutted village, Renulf let out a low moan that
built slowly into a keen. The other dragons were doing the same.

<What is it?> L'sein asked, fear seizing his heart, as he searched the wing
for a problem.

<Kalon is gone.>

Kalon... But that meant...

B'rin.

******

[B'rin]

His stomach lurched as they blinked back in. The wing was nowhere to be
seen. He looked at the ground. In the distance he could see a warren.
Not his warren of Telnor. Not Marrid. Not Keldarra. Not Daere. Not
Norwall. Not Whiteriver. Not Falagand. He had been to all those warrens
at various times in his childhood. And it certainly was too cold to be
Cleft. Where the hell was he?

Another wave of nausea hit him and a sheet of grey slowly descended.
Kalon, sensing he was passing out, was diving for the ground. As the
darkness overtook him, B'rin slid from the saddle and fell the few
remaining feet to the ground.

NRPG: Geode, B'rin of Telnor has just rather unceremoniously arrived
somewhere close to Geode. I'll send a brief bio forthwith. Just a note,
he is a secondary character of mine. He can be unconscious for a while if
you'd like. But, just FYI, he's a 14-year-old kid.

Telnor, those of you in Beta Wing or who want to write NPCs in Delta, go
ahead and write the wraith combat. From the Telnor dragons' perspectives,
Kalon, and B'rin, have just teleported to nothingness.

This would be a couple hours after lunch, Telnor time. I think it would be
similarly at Geode. You're welcome to fit this to whatever day works best
for you there.

Allen, I'm really trying to get R'chein and Ash back from their expedition,
but so much happened before then... *SIGH*

Morgie, if you write that far, feel free to have Laria learn that her
brother has died.

Kris, is Kay going to go to the attack?

I know this screws up the Danielle-Trap timeline somewhat, but Alton and
Sarah did have this happening sometime in the early afternood. You guys
can fudge your story a bit to make it fit if you need to.
