[DL-T] A letter to the Dragon Lady
by
Jacqueline "Morgan" Routier <morgie@indy.net>

NRPG: Allen, since you post arrived just as I was sending mine, I'll defer
to you as far as the entry crosspost. However I will correct Kattibrie's
reactions as I said earlier.

***************************************************************************

== Evening, at the Warrenlady's office ==

Kattibrie was absorbed in her paperwork. She didn't even hear the door
opening or notice that someone had entered the office.
>
>"You must be Kattibrie."
>
>She looked up, startled. "Oh! I'm sorry, you suprised me. Can I help you?"

Standing in front of her was a tall thin gentleman. His hair was gray and
he had a scar running down the left side of his face. He had a presence
about him that demanded respect.

>"My name's Ash. I'm one of the weaponsmasters. R'chein sent me here to
>talk to you."
>
>"He's back? What's wrong? Did something happen to Ophelia?"
>
>"No, no, not that. I just need your help. You need to prepare a letter to
>the Dragonlady and send it by courier."

"I've never done that before!" Kattibrie said in a panic. She blushed,
embarrassed at her outburst, "I'm sorry, this is my first day as a
queenrider and I am a little overwhelmed with everything that has gone on
today. But I'll do my best to help you."

>"I know you haven't, and I know you just became a queenrider. I'm sorry to
>have to dump this on you, but it's important. From what I heard, Laria is
>in no shape to do this. However, I can help you; I've sent a few messages
>in my time."

Kattibrie nodded, "I know, it's very sad. I was with Laria when she got the
news and also when it finally sunk in while she was seeing her mother and
brother in the med center. I just wish there was more I could do to help.
So what is the matter of this letter?"

>"The wastes to the north of Telnor are no longer there."

"What?" Kattibrie was stunned at the news.

>"The interface of magic has shifted, just like it did in the south. There's
>now a lot more land that we can look at...and that wraiths can attack. The
>Dragonlady has to be told, so that the new limits can be explored."
>
>"All right, so what do I say?"
>
>"Well, we need to write it so that she doesn't immediately panic and send
>help thinking that all the queenriders are incapacitated...present
>company excepted, of course. Just the fact that you're sending it is
>going to look suspicious. How about this..."

"Dear Lady Christalla,

It is my pleasure to introduce myself to you. My name is Kattibrie, I just
became queenrider yesterday and am writing this letter as part of my training.

It is my unfortunate duty to inform you that Ophelia's son B'rin has passed
on. He and Kalon made a bad teleport during a wraith attack. Laria is
handling it to the best of her ability and is currently attending to her
mother and younger brother Ph'let in the med center.

I also have news from Ash'chenon, who tells me that there has been a shift
in the magic to the north of Telnor, causing the wastes there to vanish, as
they did in the south. Now we have more land to expand to. We are currently
studying the ramifications of this discovery and devising a plan accordingly.

Sincerely yours,

Kattibrie"

>The letter was finished quickly; Kattibrie proved to be very bright, and
>caught on fast. "Now, all you have to do is find the courier...I don't
>know who that is."

"I don't remember either..." Kattibrie searched her memory, "Why not ask
your dragon?"

>Ash grimaced. "I would if I had one."

"Oh, I'm sorry. I just assumed...you kind of carried yourself as if..."
Kattibrie blushed, embarrassed at her error in assumption.

>"No offense taken. I'll go to the medical center and ask R'chein." Ash
>stopped at the entrance. "You did quite well."
>
>"Thank you." Kattibrie smiled tiredly.
>
>"If this is any indication, you should prove to be a very effective
>queenrider." Ash nodded his respect, and left.

Alone once more, Kattibrie sat down and rubbed her temples, searching her
tired mind for the name of the courier. Then it came to her.

<Shandra, love, I need you to do some detective work for me. I need to find
Gwieth's rider Prania. See if you can send around and find Gwieth, bespeak
her and have her send Prania to me I have a letter here for her to deliver
to the Dragon Lady.>

<I'll do my best, my Kattibrie,> Calishandra replied.

A few minutes later there was a knock on the door.

"Come in!"

The door opened and there stood a female of about 15 years of age. She
curtseyed, "You sent for me?"

"Yes, Prania, but no need for the formalities. I have a job for you. I have
a very important message for you to take to the Dragon Lady of Keldarra,
Kattibrie handed over the sealed letter to the young female.

Prania took the letter, dipped a slight curtsey out of habit, and left.

<Kattibrie, are you finished now? I'm tired and hungry.>

<As am I, my love. I will be right there.> Kattibrie got up and went to the
hatchling barracks to feed her hungry little queen.
