He nodded and watched her head out to the dragon chamber. He turned his
attention to the breakfast dishes.

There weren't many and it didn't take much time to wash and dry and put
them away. Kay did this all with a big smile on his face. He was happy once
again. This time there was no one that could destroy it for him!

When he finished he gathered his picture of Tahlaya and Ash's baby and
headed down to the warren stores to see about getting it framed for them.

He soon found the perfect frame and left the picture with the little man
who promised to have it framed by lunchtime. Then he headed out to find a
present for Kattibrie. After all he should get her something to symbolize
their commitment. Perhaps that's what he'd done wrong with Danielle ..
there was no way he was going to make that mistake again!

As he walked he saw H'nry and tapped him on the shoulder. The man turned
and grinned at him, "Kay. How are you today?"

*Wonderful!* he signed a big grin on his face. *Kattibrie has agreed to be
my mate.*

"Mate?" the man asked, his smile fading. "Already?"

Kay nodded seemingly oblivious to the man's concern. *I'm going to make
sure nothing goes wrong this time.*

*Are you sure you've thought about this, Kay?* H'nry signed.

Kay nodded and looked at him, *I have.*

*If you're sure ..* H'nry faltered, *I just want to make sure you're happy.
I mean you jumped into becoming Danielle's mate and ..*

*This is different. I know that.*

As promised Kay met Kattibrie just inside the medical center. The outdoor's
air was getting too nippy to wait outside for long. They  embraced and
kissed before heading down the hall toward Laya's room.

They didn't get far when they were shooed away by a ruckus down the hall.
One of the med staff ordered them away. "No visitor's!"

Kay looked at Kattibrie, his eyes filled with concern, "What is it?"

She shook her head and tried to ask the man, but he told her he couldn't
say and it would be best if they waited in the waiting room. Unable to do
anything else, the two moved to the waiting room, their hands tightly
locked. Neither knowing what was going on until the keening started.

Kay heard it first, even before it became audible to those with perfect
ears. The soft voices of the two headed dragon .. followed soon by Sabbith
and the others.

Kay felt his heart settle heavily within him as Kattibrieburied her head in
his chest, having heard from their dragon's that the newest member of the
warren was dead.
