[DL-T] Another Clutch on the Sands

Morning Day 5
Jason and Mari had begun where they left off the night before. Jason slowly let his hands glide down Mari's naked body. Mari moaned softly at his touch. His lips followed his hands exploring her body as well.
The gasp that came from Mari wasn't what Jason had expected. It wasn't a gasp of pleasure, but pain.
"Mari?" he voiced. "What's wrong baby."
"It's Reggie. She's laying her eggs."
Mari jumped out of bed, not dressing, only throwing on a robe as she ran to the hatching cavern. Her black and gold queen was laying down with her legs curled arround her eggs.
<No, you can't see them.> she snapped at her rider.
*Reggie, you know I've been waiting....* Mari pleaded with her ill tempered Queen.
A wave of fear took over Mari. The feelings her queen should of been feeling were absent. Something was seriously wrong.
*What's wrong love, should I get Dalmar?*
<NO! It's probably his fault, or no, it's that unworthy dragon that sired this clutch.>
*Reggie, please let me look, what is wrong?>
Reggie slowly unwrapped her tail from around the clutch to show 6 perfect eggs, but two with shells that were almost transparent, and two that were broken.
<I've lost two of my clutch almost before they were laid.>
Mari could now feel the overwhelming sadness of her queen. She went up to her putting her arms around the neck of the Queen and hugging it tightly.
*Somethings are meant to be.* she whispered, knowing that it wouldn't ease the pain of the dragon.
<These two won't survive. The shells are so weak I can't turn them.>
*Let me ask Dalmar, he may have an idea how to save them.*
<Why him, it's probably his fault that they're in this shape. Some medicine he gave me or something. I knew I should have stayed away from that med center. Why couldn't we just stay at Daere.>
*But if he can help?* Mari pleaded.
Reggie knew that she couldn't blame Dalmar, or Starfire. Even though she'd been looking for a reason to blame Star for something. He'd not even come to see her since they arrived here. She knew he'd not go this long without finding someone else to snuggle with. Reggie was very lonely. She'd spent most of her time in the Medical Center since she'd arrived and she'd yet to meet anyone and the only one she knew here was ignoring her. And now this...she felt like a failure.
*Reggie, I'm going to find Dalmar. He might have an idea.* Mari left feeling like crying because of her dragon's pain.
Mari ran as fast as she could to the Med Center and as she entered the door, she nearly plowed Dalmar down. "Dalmar...it's Reggie....her clutch..." she said panting.
"Her clutch?" Dalmar asked. There wasn't the usual celebration from the Queen, it had been a very quiet morning. No announcement that the eggs had been laid.
"She laid her eggs...but something is wrong...two are broken and two...." she continued on through the panting.
"Mari, slow down and catch your breath." Dalmar insisted.
"You have to come with me...come on." she pulled at the mans arm literally dragging him out of the Dragon Clinic.
Mari's panic made Dalmar more than keep up with her pace. As her entered the hatching cavern he saw the dragons he's assigned to keep the sands warm for Zareena's clutch and the men that turned the eggs every so often. It was the best he could do for an incubator for the clutch. Zareena still sat in the Cllinic, but would soon be released. Her recovery was going slowly, but well.
<All I need is a few more humans around me.> Reggie mumbled to Mari as she approached. Dalmar saw the shards of shells where the two eggs had broken.
*Reggie, let him see the other two eggs.* Mari told her queen.
Again Reggie unwrapped her tail from around the eggs. The two eggs that were transparent was like an opened window on how fast the dragons grew in their eggs. In just the few minutes from when Mari left, it was now plain to see the beginnings of the dragons. Mari knew that this would be hard for Reggie if she were to lose them.
"What caused this?" Mari asked the healer.
"It could be just a lack of calcium. But I think the hormone unbalance has something to do with this. The small clutch isn't unusual for the first. But the weakened shells are." Dalmar responded.
"Is there something we can do...to protect them?" Mari asked nearly pleading.
"Well turning will nearly be impossible. But maybe some type of outer shell..." Dalmar drifted off in thought. Anyone who could see his eyes would know he was planning something. He wandered away leaving the Queen and her rider behind, with no more information than they had before.

Mari looked up, worry showing in her face, just as Jason entered the hatching cavern.
"What is it, isn't this suppose to be a happy occassion?" he asked.
Mari took Jason's arm and walked him out of the Cavern.
"Well normally, yes. But the shells of her eggs are rather thin. Two broke during the laying and two, well I don't think we will be able to save them." Tears began to flow down Mari's cheeks.
"Shhh..." he hushed her, kissing away a tear that rolled down her cheek. "I saw Dalmar leave the cavern ask I approached. I know the look of an idea brewing. Don't put it past him to come up with something. Now tell me...you've mentions only 4, what about the rest...how many..."
"Well there would have been 10 in all. Eigiht now, but probably only 6 will hatch. Reggie is feeling like a failure. She's also feeling very lonely." she sighed. "Where's Star been keeping himself. I know Reggie hasn't been much fun to be around lately, and I know that no one knows better about that then Star, but I really think she needs a friend right now. Anyway, I'd think he'd be curious about the clutch he sired."
