am Subject: [DL-T] Prepareing for the Reigns
Day 6, Mid to late, morning
Mari busied herself with cleaning up the office, unfortunately one of the file
cabinets had toppled over and papers were strewn everywhere in Mae's office.
Aloud commotion in the hallway caught her attention and she hurried to see what
it was. As she reached for the door handle the door flew open slamming into
her.
"Youch!" she yelled staggering backwards.
Ann pushed roughly into the room, hearing the protest, and noticing whom it was
she stopped dead in her tracks. "S-sorry," She mumbled in between breaths, "I
kinda got more and more worried that I should be in this office. And the more I
got worried, and faster I went." The slight redheaded girl offered her hand to
help steady the other queenrider.
Mari smiled at the young girl, "Well I can't fault you for your enthusiasm!"
Turning to survey the office she sighed, "This shaking was very bad, several
people were injured and," the gray eyes widened and she turned to Ann, "you
heard about Mae?"
"Yes, I was talking to the rider that arrived the other day, Darius," Ann
nodded. "He said that Eth'n took her to Tinobal." She looked past Mari, "I
somehow talked myself into thinking I was going to be handed the leadership of
the warren." Ann sighed, and giggled, "And I am sooo not ready for that." She
sobered quickly as she noticed the look on Mari's face, "Umm, you knew Mae
well?" Ann asked.
Mari sighed suddenly feeling old beyond her years. Squeezing the new
queenrider's hand, "Why don't you help me clean this mess up and we can talk?"
For the next few hours the two women worked together and Mari showed Ann the
filing system and where things went. It was a companionable time as the two
got to know each other. Mari watched Ann knowing that her intended trip back
to Daere must be put off now. Ann rode a Telnor dragon that made her the acting
Warrenlady now in Mae's absence, but she was untrained and would need all the
help she could get.
"Ann I think you need to sit down!" Mari suggested.
Ann looked at her inquisitively but sank into a nearby chair.
Mari bit her lip not sure how the young woman would react. "With Mae gone that
does put you in line to be the acting Warrenlady!"
Ann sucked in a big deep breath, and let it out slowly as she tried to calm
herself. She looked up at Mari confused, "But what about you?" Ann was only a
slight bit worried.
Seeing Ann's eyes grow wide at the realization of what she said, Mari smiled
faintly. "Actually Ann, I was only a visitor here. Even though Mae has
graciously said that Reggie and I can stay Mint is Telnor born. I had planned
to go back to Daere for a short visit once Reggie was feeling better but that
can wait. You're going to need help learning how to run a Warren."
Looking around the office, "Well I think we've made quite a dent here for now.
Why don't we get a cup of coffee and we can sit down and I will explain some of
the things you will need to know!"
Ann's mind was tumbling around several different questions. Mint being Telnor
born was one of them. "I know for a fact that Mint wasn't born in Telnor." Ann
said thinking out loud. "I just don't know if I can handle it."
Ann realized it didn't really matter. "I don't really drink coffee. I had a
little warm wine earlier," She thought of her little episode in the dining
hall. "But I'm afraid I got more of it on the floor and table than past my
lips. Perhaps some tea?" Ann suggested.
"Sounds wonderful dear, even with all the rumbling there is a bit of a chill in
the air and a cup of tea would hit the spot." The queenrider's eyes glazed for
an instant. "I've asked Reggie to contact Warton and see if Eth’n might join
us. He can give us an update on Mae. Even if she isn't there long this is good
practice for you." Mari grinned sweetly and with an amused chuckle said "This
is one of the benefits or pains of riding a queen, I'm not sure which it is
sometimes!"
