Day 6
Late Afternoon
As they walked to the warren offices, Sarilyn asked Eth'n, ""So, do you need
any help with your training classes?"
"Whatever help you'd be willing to give would be gratefully accepted!"
Eth'n smiled as the charming young woman. "We've had a double hatching -
and with the hatchlings a few days apart, we may need to split the group
when it comes to training.
"Here's the warren offices... if you haven't met the quartermaster, his
office is right in here... and this is the warrenlady's office...." A very
sad look crossed over Eth'n's face at the thought of the most recent
occupant of the office. "Ann and Mari are in here cleaning up." Tapping on
the door, he was surprised when it swung open.
"Latch is broken!" Ann called by way of welcome.
They pushed their way into the office. Mari and Ann had done a hard day's
work piling files and cleaning debris, but the office was still a mess.
"Ann, Mari, these are two new dragonriders -- just arrived during the gas
leak, I believe -- Darla and Sarilyn."
Eth'n left the women, thus introduced, and escaped from the office before he
let his feelings get the better of him.
He was still leaning up against the wall, when the two young women came out,
talking excitedly. They looked up toward the towering cliff face and
pointed, shielding their eyes to squint up at the apartment entrances -- and
the comings and goings of the warren dragons.
"Looking for something?" Eth'n asked.
"Well, the quartermaster showed us on a map which apartments were vacant...
but now I'm not so sure that I could find them," Darla stated.
Eth'n's eyes clouded for a moment as he bespoke Warton and then nodded in
silent answer to what the dragon replied. A moment later the large maroon
dragon landed on the green in front of the three riders. "I believe we know
which apartments our quartermaster may have suggested, and would be more
than happy to help you tour them."
