Saul whistled as he walked back to where Fayloth lay on the green. It had
definitely been a good night! He could think of worse ways to spend an
evening then with a flaxen-haired angel. Even if it had started with the
loss of his lucky bag .. he chuckled, guess it was lucky in many ways ..
<You are too happy, for going home alone, my rider.>
<Perhaps, dear Fayloth, perhaps,> he said to the dark blue dragon as he
hopped on his back and headed to his skyward apartment. <But I shall see
her in the morning.>
<You? In the morning.. don't you mean afternoon?>
<Not this time. No, this time I look forward to early rising.>
Fayloth snorted, what had those aqua eyes done to his rider. Not that it
was unusual for a lovely face to catch Saul's eye, but to wake early for
one .. that was unusual!
***
It was early when Saul awoke. And he awoke in a good mood which surprised
his dragon. While Fayloth grumbled about being made to get up so early,
Saul whistled happily. He bathed and dressed as quickly as he could and
made his way to where Fayloth still lay curled on his sandy bed.
"Get up, lazy bones! It's a beautiful day." Saul said a he teasingly
caressed the dragon's neck ridges.
Fayloth purred as a dragon does, and sighed, <Well, if you put it that
way.> He rose up and stretched making Saul duck so as not to be hit with a
wing.
"Hey!"
<Oops, sorry,> chuckled the dragon.
He lumbered over to the ledge and Saul deftly jumped on his back. With on
gracefully leap the dark blue dragon was gliding down toward the green. <Oh
Look!> said Fayloth happily, <Cricket is awake!>
Saul chuckled, as he spotted the shimmering silver of the queen dragon as
she lay partially in Thorin's gardens. He knew the young healer lost
several plants that way as the young queen loved to smell the blossoms of
the flowering plants. Of course, Thorin would never think to complain,
particularly to Trinale. So he allowed the dragon to enjoy her time in the
gardens. At least he wouldn't have to worry about it for too much longer.
The cool air of fall was beginning to hit the southern Warren and soon the
plants would no longer blossom until early next spring.
<Just watch Thorin's plants when you go over to try and impress the young
queen.> teased Saul.
<She is impressed by me!> said Fayloth indignantly.
Saul chuckled, <Of course,> though he wasn't really all that sure. If
Cricket was impressed by the show-off antic's of his dragon, she certainly
didn't show it, as it usually appeared she ignored him.
Fayloth landed not to far from the silver queen and immediately began to
preen himself magnificently, as his rider headed to the apartment where he
had left the lovely thief. He knock gently at her door.
He heard a commotion and then her quiet voice saying, "Who's there?"
"It's Saul, Sweet Shawnee. Are you ready to go see your brother and sister?"
The door opened slowly and soon those enchanting aqua eyes were looking out
at him. "Oh yes. I'm sorry, I must have slept in longer then I'd planned.
Please come in."
Saul stepped in admiring the woman wrapped in her long robe. "I didn't mean
to wake you," he grinned.
"That's okay, just let me get dressed, and we can go." She dashed off into
the bathroom and Saul took a seat to wait for her.
"I'm sure your brother and sister are eager to see you." He called to her.
"As am I," she responded. "I missed them terribly last night."
"You were .. lonely?" he asked.
She popped her head out the door and looked at him with raised eyebrows,
"There's nothing wrong with being alone."
Saul could hear the lightness in her voice and laughed, "No, there isn't."
It wasn't much longer and the young woman finished in the bathroom and
emerged looked fresh. Saul smiled, "You look beautiful."
She blushed, "Thank you."
He held out his arm, "Shall we?" She took it and nodded. "I would like to
take you to meet the Warrenlady sometime today."
"The Warrenlady?" Shawnee asked, a bit doubtful.
Saul chuckled, "Don't worry, you'll like her. She's .. well she's almost
like a daughter to me, thought I hate to admit I might be that old. Her
father is my patrol partner and has been since she was just a baby."
The two entered the medical center and Shawnee was introduced to the head
healer, B'ril.
"Good morning, B'ril." Greeted Saul, "This is Shawnee, her younger brother
and sister were brought in last night. She'd like to see them and know how
they are doing."
Regards,
Saul & Fayloth
