[excerpt from "[DL-W] Awaiting news"]

>The day passed as Trinale anxiously awaited word from Saul. Later that
>afternoon a rider rode in and she got word from Cricket that this rider
>wished to see the Warrenlady. She strolled out of her office and met a
>young woman who demanded to see the little girl who Cali and Titania had
>brought in the previous day. Trinale led the way curious to why this
>young woman was so demanding. Granted, the little girl was still out of
>it, but with her father gone, that might be best. It would scare her to
>wake up among strangers that she couldn't understand.
>
>As the healer demanded everyone leave the room, Trinale bristled.
>
>"B'ril will decide who stays. He is the head healer here. I also believe
>Thorin should stay as he has been working with the girl also." Trinale
>stated.
>
>Thorin excused himself and left the room anyway. Trinale sighed and
>wished she knew what to do with him. She turned back to the healer "I
>don't know what you can do or exactly what your credentials are but could
>you please explain them to B'ril and I? Then if we are satisfied, you may
>look at the little girl. It might be best not to wake her though. I am
>sure she would be terrified to be by herself in a world where noone can
>understand her or she can't understand them. Her father has been taken to
>see the Dragonlady so we can possibly find out what has happened."

"I'm a MindHealer. My specialties are them mental wounds caused to dragons
and humans after intense stress or injury. I also have a 'talent' that
comes in handy," Raissa attempted to explain.

"What kind of 'talent' is this?" B'ril asked.

"I hear feelings, and if I'm in phisical contact or have a strong emotional
tie, I can affect them. That's how I work, I remove the traumatic feelings
associated with the event and let the more experienced healers work on the
body," she said.

"So you want us to let you use your training on the girl?" Trinale asked.

"If that's possible. If I can get her back on our side of life, she has a
better chance. Unfortunately, I can't work on a patient unless I have an
area of low emotional traffic. With all of the people in this area
transmitting pain, fear and worry, I can't concentrate enough to work
properly," Raissa explained.

"Trinale, I think this lady knows what she's doing. I'll try to accommodate
her needs and give her the details of our star patient," B'ril said.

Trinale excused herself, and B'ril escorted the other healer to see Omana.

The girl Raissa was shown was pale from infection and blood loss. The
stumps of her legs were bandaged, as were the wraith-burns all over her
body. The only indication that she was still alive was the steady rise and
fall of her chest.

Raissa walked up to the little girl and gently touched her body.

"B'ril, are those wounds healing well?"

"Yes, but she'll never win a beauty contest. Why?"

"Are you familiar with the term 'coma?'" Raissa asked.
