Saul
***
Morning came to shine on the couple as they lay in their own bed, spooned
together sleeping peacefully.
Saul snuggled up to the woman .. his nose buried in her white blonde locks,
breathing in her sweet fragrance, feeling her soft skin. He moved closer
nuzzling her neck, feeling the stirrings of desire as he ran his hand over
her rounded hip and then over her very flat belly ..
Suddenly his eyes shot open and he sat up, breathing hard. The woman he'd
been snuggling with wasn't there. He was alone and it had been nothing more
then a dream. A sweet dream .. yet just a dream.
He frowned and climbed out of bed heading into the bathroom for a long ..
cold .. shower! It would be a long while before he was in that position
with his Sweet Shawnee ..
***
He headed down to the med center a short time later, washed and refreshed
and thinking only of seeing his mate for real this time. While dreams could
be sweet the real thing was much better.
"Saul!" a voice called. He turned to see Gwyna heading toward him. He
grinned and waved. She looped her arm in his, "Are you heading over for
breakfast?"
"Oh no, I had a muffin in the apartment. Shawnee's waiting for me."
"Oh," Gwyna frowned. "Not even time for some coffee? I hate eating along."
"I wish I could Sweet Gwyna, but duty calls."
"Of course, I would expect nothing less of you, Saul. Another time then."
"Sure," he nodded and waved as their paths split. His mind quickly back as
he hurried to meet his mate.
She was already awake when he entered and she smiled at him, "It's about
time. I'm dying to get out of here."
"I'm ready to take you home too. Where's Clarissa?"
"Haven't seen her yet this morning?" Shawnee frowned.
"Soon you'll be home, love, no reason to rush the poor thing if she's busy."
As if planned, Clarissa walked in at that moment. "Good morning." She smiled.
"Clarissa, can I go home now .. please," Shawnee begged.
Clarissa's face wrinkled, "Not yet, I'm sorry."
"Why not?" Shawnee pouted.
"Because I want you to eat breakfast here, and in a couple of hours I want
to take some blood. I need to do it anyway, Shawnee, might as well do it
while you're here."
Taking a deep breath Shawnee agree, "Fine. But as soon as the needle is out
of my arm .."
Clarissa laughed, "Patience, dear. You'll be home soon enough. In the
meantime you and I need to talk about certain restrictions .."
Shawnee groaned as the healer pulled up a chair to begin her lecture.
***
Saul had excused himself while Shawnee ate breakfast to check in on the
plans to relocate K'leev and Owlean. He wanted to have Byrin ready when the
time came because he planned on accompanying them.
He approached Trinale's office and knocked lightly on the door.
"Come in," her authoritative voice called.
He walked in with a grin, "Good morning, little flower."
"Good morning," she smiled.
"I hear congratulations are in order."
Trinale beamed, "Yes! And I take it you don't mind."
Saul shrugged, "I guess I've finally gotten it through my head that you've
grown up. And Derric .. besides being a very lucky young man .. is also a
good man."
She moved around the desk and hugged him, "Oh Saul, I love him so much. And
he makes me happy."
"That's all that matters." He hugged her tightly, genuinely happy for her.
He released her and a frown formed on his face, "That's not why I stopped
by though. I wanted to talk to your new mate and his sister. I need to know
when they're leaving to take K'leev and .." he paused seeing her shaking
her head at him, "Why are you shaking your head at me?"
"Because you aren't going. Saul you're too close."
"I helped rescue the kids!" he roared, "Of course I'm going."
"No. My decision is final. Besides Shawnee needs you here."
"Trinale, I have to take Byrin back to his mother tonight anyway. And I
know Shawnee will want to know for sure that they're behind bars. I do to."
"They will be. Merissa's going, as is Derry and Katla. J'red, N'lin and
T'jellan are all going as well."
"What? You'll let T'jellan go and not me!"
"T'jellan isn't Shawnee's mate."
"Not for lack of wanting," Saul muttered.
Trinale grabbed his arm firmly, squeezing it comfortingly, "Wanting and
being are two different things .. I should know."
"I just don't understand you telling me I can't go."
"It my decision. And I think I've made the right one. Don't make me have to
explain it to you."
"I have to take Byrin back anyway .." Saul protested one more time.
"~After~ they take K'leev and Owlean."
***
Saul stepped into Shawnee's room, surprised to find her dressed and ready
to go. "Are you released?"
She nodded, "And I've been waiting here for you to take me home .. after
lunch. I'm starving!"
"Well, I'm glad your appetite hasn't changed," he chuckled.
She poked him lightly, "For your information my bother and sister and your
son are waiting for us!"
"Ahh, so you're using the kids as an excuse now are you?"
She grinned and shook her head. "So what took you so long?"
He grimaced. "I was 'chatting' with Trinale."
"Did you give her our congratulations?"
He nodded, "And then she told me I couldn't go with them to take K'leev to
Ralengarde."
"Why?"
He shrugged, "It doesn't matter. She's made her decision and I have to
abide by it."
"I'm sorry."
"It's all right I'll just take Byrin at dinnertime." He said off hand
pulling her out of the med center and toward the dining hall.
***
Saul could see Ojean was looking a bit nervous when they arrived. So he
settled Shawnee down next to the lad and he and Byrin and Fawna got up to
get everyone's lunch. Fawna was more then happy to follow the Saul and his
handsome son leavinge Ojean and Shawnee alone together.
Fawna spread her attention between Saul and Byrin quite well, making sure
neither felt neglected as she chattered away at them.
The teenager was humoring the young girl quite well. Saul grinned, already
seeing the charming smile he himself used so frequently emerging on the
boys face. He was going to be a heartbreaker!
***
After lunch, Saul moved to help Shawnee home, but she put him off. "I have
to go see Cali, love."
"You have to go home and rest."
"You make sure Ojean and Fawna get settled back at home and I'll be up in a
bit." She smiled, "this is my last chance to explain everything to her."
He nodded, "Alright but don't be long."
"I won't," She said kissing him softly on the lips.
***
Saul stood on the ledge watching the procession of dragonriders loading the
prisoners on dragons to go to Ralengarde. "I should be going with them." He
muttered.
Shawnee was sitting on the couch sewing. She chuckled, "I'm glad you're
not. At least not yet."
"Well they have half and hour and then I'm taking Byrin home .. and if I
happen to fly over the prison .."
"Saul .."
"All right, all right. I'll stop obsessing!"
"I'm sure .." she laughed. But he didn't hear as he continued to watch the
dragons as they prepared to go to Ralengarde.
Regards,
Saul & Fayloth
