Frustration filled Tarv'renon as the mating flight was consummated by
the winning dragon, and Merissa was carried off by the winning rider,
and he knew he was not alone. He bent to the ground and picked up the
parcel containing the sketch pad and charcoal he'd bought earlier that
morning and headed over toward the waterfall, perhaps engaging in some
leisurely drawing of landscapes would help quell the desires still
raging within him.

He sat on the ground and sketched the waterfall, trying to tune out the
sounds of everything else around him except for the cool, flowing
waters, when he heard a sound. It was disturbing to the young man, and
vaguely familiar. Then he realized it was the sound of someone crying.
It pulled at his heart, and so the young artist stood up, brushed
himself off, and went toward the sound.

"Oh, Gods... Th'rin!" Tarv'renon knelt down beside his sorrowful friend,
and stroked him gently on the cheek. "What is it, my friend? What could
be so bad?"

"Merissa..." the healer sobbed.

Tarv'renon wrapped his arms about the smaller man protectively, "Sh...
No need to cry now." He paused as he felt that familiar spark ignite
between them. What was that? "What," Tarv'renon cleared his throat
nervously, "What can I do to help?"

"Just be here, hold me."

"I'm here, I've got you," Tarv'renon repeated comfortingly. He couldn't
stand to see Th'rin in so much pain, it tore at his very soul. Nurturing
instinct blended with desire and without further thought, Tarv'renon
bent forward and kissed Th'rin tenderly on the lips.
