<<Day 9, Late Afternoon>>
>Trinale followed her into the room where Ashelle lay, very pale and still.
>T'jellan was also there, holding her hand. "T'jellan notified me a few
>minutes ago, that Ashelle was having some kind of seizure. I entered the
>room and she was seizing, and then has been comatose since."
>"Is she going to be alright?" Trinale asked.
>"I'm not sure. This is not our specialty. I'd like to transfer her to
>Tinobal." Xanthia said.
>"Of course. If you feel she should be there." Trinale said.
>T'jellan slowly let go of her hand. "I have to go tell Tevel."
>Trinale nodded. "But, lets get transport arranged and get her out of here."
>Xanthia nodded and went to make arrangements.
T'jellan headed down the hall to find Tevel. He knew the young man was
sitting with his mother and also knew it would probably be best is he did
not barge in on them. Liv had been very good to allow him access to his
son, he certainly had no cause to force himself up on her anymore then was
necessary.
So he stood by her door in silence until a med staff came by several
moments later. "Excuse me," he said softly, "My son .. Tevel, if in with
his mother. It is very important that I speak with him. Could you tell him
I'm out here .. waiting?"
The young woman nodded, "Of course, I'll tell him. It's time for her bath
anyway. I'll need him to leave."
T'jellan nodded, "Thank you .."
She smiled and slipped into the room. T'jellan waited in silence for a
short time longer until his tall lanky son stepped into the hallway. "Dad?
The girl said you needed to see me?"
T'jellan nodded, "Yes, Tev .. I've just come from Ashelle's room." He saw
pain cross the young man's face briefly while he nodded. The older man
continued, "She .. had a seizure."
"Oh gods .." Tevel said panic edging into his eyes, "Is she okay .. maybe I
should go see her .."
"Tevel," T'jellan's voice halted his son, "It's serious. They're sending
her to Tinobel .."
"Tinobel! They can't!" Tevel said slipping away toward Ashelle's room.
T'jellan groaned slightly and made to follow the lad. But a musical laugh
.. albeit week .. sounded from the room he'd been standing in front of and
it caused him to freeze. Oh how he'd loved that sound so long ago .. He
found himself drawn to the door, which was tightly shut. He pressed his ear
to the door and listened again.
He heard the rumbling of Liv's voice along with that of the med staff.
Their words were mumbled, but from the tone, it was clear the woman was in
much better. He was relieved .. and while he would love to stand and just
listen and remember .. he knew he needed to follow his son. So reluctantly
he left the door and headed back to Ashelle's room.
He could hear Tevel's pleading voice, "But it's so far .. shouldn't she be
here with those who love her!"
He stepped into to see Xanthia staring at Tevel's ruddy face, "She had a
major seizure and nearly died. Here at the warren we do not have the staff
to give her the 24 hour car she'll need right now. She could die if she
doesn't go to Tinobel."
"Die? No! You've got to make her better." Tevel insisted.
Xanthia nodded, "Yes, this is the only thing to make her better. You have
to trust me."
T'jellan stepped up to the two and placed a comforting hand on his son's
shoulder, "Listen to her, son. It's for Ashelle's own good."
"As if you cared," Tevel shot back and T'jellan withdrew his hand as if
burned, and leaned back heavily on his cane.
"I do care .. "
Tevel shook his head and grimaced. "I'm sorry, Dad .. I just .. I don't
want them to take her away." He turned back to Xanthia. "Isn't there
anything .."
Xanthia shook her head, "No .. there isn't."
Tevel spun away from the healer and moved to Ashelle's side. Her eyes were
shut in a drug-induced sleep and she seemed so pale. "Oh Ashelle .." his
eyes were clouded with the beginnings of tears as he took her unresponsive
hand in his.
"Everything's ready." A voice said from the door and T'jellan saw Xanthia
nod to the transport that had been arranged for Ashelle.
T'jellan moved to Tevel's side, "They've got to take her, Tev."
Tevel simply nodded in misery and reluctantly allowed himself to be moved
away, so the transport riders could be get in to move her. He hung his
head, "What happened? She was doing so well .. Oh gods .. what happened."
T'jellan gingerly put a hand on his son's shoulder, "Once your mother is
better .. perhaps we can take a visit to check on her."
Tevel shrugged, "Thanks .." Then he looked up and let his green eyes meet
his fathers, "I'm going to go get something to eat .. seems there's nothing
I can do here now. Wanna join me?"
T'jellan nodded and the two followed the transport riders out of the room,
as they carefully moved the young girl to the dragon which would take her
from them both.

<< Day 10 - Late Morning >>
<We're being called to the green, 'Lissa.> Patinari called to her sleepy rider
<Now .. but Pitty Pat .. this is the first time I've been able to sleep in
for nearly a week. I'm so tired ..>
<Firefly is calling us. He needs us to patrol with him.>
<Firefly?> Elissa asked, her interest growing. Why did that name seem so
familiar?
<Yes, remember large Crimson dragon? His rider protected you from Hummer's
rider when he tried to ..>
<Oh yes ..> Elissa nodded, quickly interrupting the dragon. The last thing
she wanted to think about was Brocher! How was it that such a handsome boy
could be such a lout! She turned her thoughts to Firefly's rider, J'red,
and blushed remember how this summer she accidentally kissed him on the
lips. She'd barely seen him since. A few friendly smiles and waves in the
dining hall, but nothing beyond that.
He was older and she was still in training .. well was. She'd been on
regular patrols now for a while, and it was close to wearing her out. She
hadn't known being a dragonrider was such hard work!
<Come on .. they're waiting for us.>
<Okay .. okay,> Elissa said crawling out of bed and heading to her dresser
to pull out some warm riding leathers. She groaned as she looked in the
mirror to see her pigtail's a mess. It looked as though she'd slept in them
.. Well she had, but she didn't want to look like it!
Several of her girl friends had suggested she just rid herself of the
pigtails. They were the last remnant she had of her childhood. Her father
had loved to see her in pigtails. She did notice that they made her seem
twice as young as she really was. At 16 and a half, she should probably
think about a cute short sporty look that many of the female riders she
hung out with were wearing ..
She shrugged, "Maybe I'll do it .. but now time now .." She quickly undid
the pigtails and brushed out her long brown hair before wrapping it up in
bun she could easily tuck under her riding cap. Then she ran to the ledge
of her apartment and she and Patinari glided down to where the crimson
dragon was waiting for them.
She swallowed as she saw the handsome J'red come around his dragon and
smile up at her. "Hello Elissa. I hope you don't mind riding with me for a
while? My partner's dragon is unable to fly for a while."
She shook her head, giving him a brilliant smile, "Of course not, J'red, I
don't mind at all .."
"Good, shall we go then?"
Elissa nodded and stayed on her dragon's back, watching as J'red climbed up
on his dragon. His shoulders rippled under his leather jacket and she found
herself staring at his back side intently. As he turned to give her the
'all ready' signal, she grinned and flashed it back. Perhaps this wouldn't
be so bad after all ..

<< Day 10 - Lunchtime >>
The tall red-head sat his plate at a table and began to eat his lunch.
Things were not working out the way he'd planned at all. He'd come to
Whiteriver to see his father healed.. and possibly stand at the hatching.
And while his father was now up and about, the hatching had been a disaster
and his mother was now in the med center with wraith burns.
And to top it off .. Ashelle was gone. He couldn't remember being more
miserable.
"Hi Tevel," he heard his name called.
He looked up to see Moira settling her plate beside his, "Hi Moira."
"I wanted to see how your mom was doing?"
"Better," he told her, "She in good spirits. I think Th'rin's going to
release her tomorrow."
"That's great!" Moira smiled at him.
He nodded and turned his attention back to his plate.
She frowned at him, "So why do you look so blue?"
He shrugged, "Whiteriver just hasn't turned out the way I'd thought .."
She nodded, "I'm sorry .. are you going back with your mom when she's
released?"
He shrugged again, "Maybe .. I don't know. Mom wants me to stay. She says
she's always hoped I'd join .. but .."
"Oh then stay, Tevel. Please. I'm sure you'll join one of these times. And
the queen just flew. As I understand it there'll be eggs on the ground
within a week .. and then only a couple months more and they'll hatch.
Maybe you'll find your dragon there?"
"Maybe .." he said non-commitally. He'd thought the same thing, but was
afraid to get his hopes up. Especially after what had happened the last
time. "I'm thinking it might just be better to go home. Mom could use me
there .. and I .. think it would just be best .."
