Day 9
The Early Hours
Daisy had stayed late at the dining hall, helping to clear up after they
stopped serving food. She'd spent so many hours preparing and serving
food for others, it wasn't until they stopped serving that she realised she
hadn't eaten herself. By then she was so tired she just grabbed a piece of
fruit to eat on the way home.
Home... she thought of the small room she shared with her sister and
shocked herself when she realised how much she actually liked it here.
Rosie wasn't home when she got back to the room. Daisy hadn't seen her
since she'd left her watching the hatching sands through the window
earlier that afternoon, but she wasn't overly worried. She imagined her
sister had probably gone back to the sands at some stage.
Tiredly, the elder twin slipped of her shoes and laid down on the bed
still fully dressed and was asleep in seconds.
~~~~~~~~~~
Rosie had had a fantastic evening. After eating at the tavern she and
J'red had stayed for a few drinks before the dragonrider had flown her back
to the warren. Rosie had persuaded him then to fly her around the warren
and she was on such a high when she eventually arrived home that she felt
like she was still flying.
She'd all but forgotten about the dragon eggs that were due to be laid at
any time, but when she remembered, she couldn't resist a quick walk over to
the hatching sands to see if anything had happened. She was only slightly
disappointed to notice that nothing had changed, and returned to the room
she shared with her sister quietly and slipped into the bed she and Daisy
were sharing.
It was light before she eventually fell asleep, but when she did, her
dreams were of dragons and adventure and a handsome rider called J'red.
~~~~~~~~~~
Daisy had to be up early. She needed to be at the kitchen before they
began serving to help with the preparation. Sunlight streaming into the
room woke her and the elder twin rose to shower and dress.
She smiled at her sister who was still sleeping peacefully, and didn't
wake her before leaving for the dining hall.
Her own stomach was growling, and she hoped to have enough time to eat
herself before the dining hall started to fill up.
"Daisy" an unfamiliar voice called out to her as she crossed the warren.
She'd met so many people the previous evening, it was going to take a
while to remember them all and what they sounded like.
She turned in the direction of the voice. "Yes?" she smiled at the
stranger.
"Uh.. It is Daisy, right?" For a moment J'red wasn't sure he'd found the
same girl. She looked just like the girl he'd had a wonderful time with the
night before, but there wasn't any recognition in her eyes as she gazed up
at him.
"Yes.. I'm Daisy. Did we meet last night?" She smiled at him.
"Yes! Last night." J'red felt relief wash over him. She did remember,
how could he have doubted that. "I want to thank you for dining...."
"Oh, of course," She cut him off with a wave of her hand, "but it really
was my pleasure. Though, I really must go help out in the kitchen, they'll
be needing me to help prepare the breakfast."
"Wow, you've only been here a few days and you're already helping in the
kitchens. Well, I'm impressed." J'red beamed at the real Daisy. "Yes...
well, thank you again. I won't keep you. I'll look forward to.... to...
seeing you again, then."
"Maybe at breakfast?" Daisy asked with a smile. She couldn't get over how
friendly everyone in the warren was! She'd only served the guy dinner last
night yet he'd taken the time to thank her.
J'red nodded. "Maybe" he said hopefully. He had a couple of things to do
before breakfast, but maybe he'd make the time to get to the dining hall.
