[Day of finding refugee encampment]
Carlynee stared agog as the dragons started dropping out of the skies after appearing out of
nowhere. She just started to question Ce'lot about it when he practically dragged her into a
rough receiving line for the supplies the monstrous brought, Halyn too. But Halyn's attention
was dragged elsewhere and she was gone from Carlynee's sight before the artisan could garble
out a word.
Thinking roughly to herself that she wanted to give a couple dragonriders a good shake, she
composed her face and followed the instructions barked at her. She looked every so often for
Halyn's small form as she transported needed supplies from the dragons and comforted the
antsy horses.
Soon enough she was one body too many in the now dying off bustle of activity and she went
in search for Halyn. She thought she saw Halyn crouched over a young man's prone form in
the "wounded" area. The tall girl found herself following a plump woman to where Halyn was.
Carlynee's eyes looking in concern at all the people who were hurt and feverish, missing the
plump woman's name, but coming back to her senses quickly enough at Halyn's concerned
voice.
> "He thinks you're Iralyn, doesn't he?" Aggie asked, moving closer and kneeling down to put a >hand on Frelan's forehead, pushing his black hair out of the way.
> Halyn nodded, "He does. I... I didn't realize how close he and my sister were." A snort came >from Manda, causing Carlynee to look at the blonde girl questioningly. "Shows how little you >know /Halyn/," Manda drawled with a smirk. Carlynee's eyes darted to meet Halyn's, but she >only sighed and shrugged. Manda was not going to get to her. Not right now.
Carlynee turned a scornful gaze at the girl, who's lip jutted out mulishly, before she looked down
at the ground of her feet.
<snip outburst and running away>
> Halyn looked questioningly at Aggie, who frowned with concern, "That girl's had it hard. At
>least she wasn't raped."
> Carlynee had moved forward and now Halyn felt the other girl's hand on her shoulder. Halyn
>didn't look up as she asked, swallowing hard, "Raped?"
A hint of rage crossed into Carlynee's eyes and was dampened with regret as she realized how
out of line she was with her scornful gaze at the young woman. Gritting her teeth against the anger
she felt as the woman spoke of rape and slavery was the only thing she could do.
> Carlynee looked over the sobbing girl at Aggie, who was now rubbing Halyn's back and trying
>to comfort her, "Oh, Halyn... there there... nothing you could have done... I know, I know... you let it out."
>Only Carlynee saw the petite blonde form of Manda just inside the treeline, her ice blue eyes flashing
>defiantly, a wicked smile of satisfaction on her face.
Carlynee's eyes narrowed as she saw the young woman's facial expressions. As she turned towards
the petite blond, her grim expression must have given her away and the girl disappeared into the shadows
quick as a wink. Trying to conceal her worry and displeasure, Carlynee turned back to Halyn just in time
hear the woman mention something about tending others and leave off.
Carlynee kneeled near Halyn and the feverish young man, "Halyn, the dragonriders are moving the sick
and wounded off back to the Warren. Perhaps you'd like to go back when they decide to take your friend?
I'm not certain on whether you found out about your parents-"
Halyn's soft voice cut off Carlynee, "I know Carlynee...I know."
Gripping her friend's shoulder, Carlynee waited for Halyn to come to a decision ... a solitary tear running
down Halyn's cheek. Even if Halyn decided to go back with her young man, Carlynee was determined to
keep looking for the young girl's parents. She didn't trust that spiteful little blonde.
