*Belarade*

The nurse kept telling her to relax...everything would be okay....but the
nervous twitch kept disrupting her sleep, causing her body to jerk on the
left side.

"If you just give me one of those pills... I know it will make the twitch go
away... I know it will...," she pleaded once with Nineve.

And now as the night creatures outside of the medical center awoke to the
beginning of a brand new twilight, Belarade also lay awake...her mind
whirling with incoherent thoughts.

Ce'Lot...he had left her...no no....she had pushed him away - Why? Why did
she push him away.... He had been so upset...

<Menia...> she cried as she reached out mentally to touch her dragon and
felt the familiar red embrace it's rider's voice. <It hurts....it hurts>

<I'm sorry....> the dragon let out a small quiet bleating noise and tried
it's best to comfort Belarade. <Calixto is here...>

Calixto.... Belarade made a face and turned her face into her pillow. The
name rang a distant bell...but she couldn't quite place the rider with the
dragon.

She blinked her eyes open; the edges of the dark room slowly hardening into
focus before she saw his gleaming smile.

"Hey Bel! You're awake."

"Sh . sh'han .."

"Yep that's me," Sh'han said moving to her side and taking her hand. "As
soon as I heard you weren't feeling well, I had to come and check on you.
Couldn't let you be alone at a time like this .."

Belarade took his hand slowly and pushed herself up from the bed. "What
time is it?" she asked as she glanced around the small room looking for a
clock.

"Just after dinner...we were celebrating our victory over the wraiths..."
Sh'han's thumb lightly brushed up and down over her hand. "How are you
feeling?"

Bel swallowed hard and shook her head. "Not very well... I really need some
of this medicine... Nineve won't give me any at all... She started me on
them and now she just wants to take them away. I really need them to feel
better..."

Sh'han listened to her intently and then nodded slightly. "Well....we'll
see what we can do...but right now..." he let out a deep sigh. "Bel....why
were you on those things?"

"I was in pain... I needed them...." Belarade pleaded with him.

"Were you in pain? Bel you certainly didn't need them for any other
reason..." he reached up to brush some of her hair from her face and then,
seeing an opportunity to gain a few points, asked, "Where is Ce'Lot?"

"I....I don't know...he was here earlier....but I made him leave..."

Sh'han grinned and moved to sit on the bed beside her. "Well I'm
glad....we've got some time alone again..."

Belarade blushed furiously. "I'm sure there are some nurses around..."

"Alone in the room though...." he offered.

"I'm not sure when Ce'Lot is coming back...." Bel whispered.

"I'm not worried about him... Should I be?"

The statement was incredibly conceited and egotistic, but all she could do
was sit and stare back at him before clearing her throat.

"I thought you were seeing someone?" Belarade asked.

"I'm seeing you right now..." he grinned.

"No..." Bel laughed some. "That's not what I meant..."

"I know what you meant....and there's that beautiful smile of yours....I was
wondering when I was going to see it..." he smiled before leaning over and
placing his lips on hers.

*B'Lin*

The roar of his dragon made him turn his eyes from the girl in front of him
to the skies.

<Glay!>

<That little female bit me!>

<What???> B'Lin frowned and then looked back at Veronyca who was grinning
from ear to ear. "Your dragon bit mine.....what the hell is up with that?"

She shrugged and continued to smile. "Maybe he irritated her..."

B'Lin snorted. "Glay does not irritate other dragons...trust me..."

"Well maybe his rider is irritating me..."

B'Lin frowned and then, for lack of a better comeback, wrinkled his nose and
mocked her back. "Well maybe her rider is irritating me..."

At this, Veronyca laughed and quickly slapped a hand over her mouth to
muffle it. "That's so mature..."

B'Lin grinned some and shrugged a little, beginning to like the fiest in
this one. "So....you won't let me see my sister, but how about coming with
me to get something to eat... I can't go there without a girl on my arm...
I've got an image to live up to."

<Tag Veronyca and Sh'han>
<NRPG: I'm not sure what time of day Sh'han came to see Bel....so I just
made it evening...or night.... If that's not right, then I can always
rewrite.>

You expected to be sad in the fall. Part of you died
each year when the leaves fell from the trees and
their branches were bare against the wind and the
cold, wintry light. But you knew there would always
be the spring, as you knew the river would flow again
after it was frozen.

-- A Moveable Feast, Ernest Hemingway
